A View into the world of making baskets

Gathering and Splitting the Wood
Picture of Tom McColley (Basket Maker, Wood Turner) watching a mother fox head for the compost bin.

The scenery is from the back of the McColley Basket Studio in Chole, West Virginia.
Of course a common sight on this property is a tree
down, ready to be worked into a basket

In this picture you will see the Chain Saw which is used to ONLY cut down the tree. Everything else is done by hand. Looking closely you will see the log, one split in half and one quartered. Also notice the wedges along side the quarters.

Here you see Tom McColley taking the wedge and splitting maul.
